About

I am Michael, a games and UX researcher, philosopher, teacher, and founder.

My research focusses on formal inquiries into the ontology of games, what their constitutive, structural elements are, and their relationship to each other and elements outside the underlying system of games. One such endeavor is, for example, my collaborative research on goals and their relationship to narrative (see publications).

I am also interested in the representation of christian mythology in video games, and player behavior and reasons for participation in drinking games.

I have studied games at the IT University of Copenhagen for five years. Visited the University of Utah’s Entertainment Arts and Engineering program as a graduate student in 2018, and was a visiting researcher at the University of Siegen’s ELISE program in 2016. My PhD project was supervised by Espen Aarseth.

In 2017 I co-founded the Young Academics Workshop (e.g. 2019). An annual workshop within the Clash of Realities Conference that enables academic exchange of ideas between junior academics and designers. I have acted as organizer and host of various events and conferences, such as the Philosophy of Computer Games Conference (2018) and the Multiple Approaches for Games Analysis Workshop (2017).
